Dallas PicturePolooza! {Memphis, TN~Family Portraiture}

Posted on October 22, 2010

What a week!

I was all geared up for fall pumpkin family photos of my kids with my newest nephew, but it was in the mid-80′s in Dallas this week!

Pumpkin pictures still turned out cute, but they didn’t get to wear the clothes I had picked out. :)

But I got a nice family photo of my sister and her fellas…

See?… Nice and “October-y”, right?  (Ha!)

But beautiful…

The next afternoon, I went back for a family session with this beautiful family:

See this cutie?

She makes some AWESOME faces.  And was quite the trooper when I literally put her in a flower-bed.

You can tell her parent’s love her SO much!

This is one cool couple.  I had so much fun photographing this family!

The next day I took the kids with me to shoot the Bills.  I was explaining to my kids as we drove out to their home, that I’ve known this family since I was a teenager.  (I love how photography gives me reasons to visit with old friends!)

Here *most* of them are loving on one of my living examples of biblical womanhood.

Deborah– Thank you for being an example of being God’s woman as you raise your family, support your husband, and influence the world around you.

I had a special request from Mr. C that there be some black and white photos.  So… here they are:

And then… because it’s too cute NOT to share…

Whoo!  Long post.  I hope you enjoyed it.

Now to re-coop from the trip and do laundry… (and sleep!)

Love that Autumn Shot! {Memphis, TN Photographer}

Posted on October 21, 2010

ISO 200, 35mm, f10, 1/80 sec.

The weather is not cooperating with my romanticized notion of what the temperature SHOULD be at this point in the year.  I am longing for long-sleeve-wearing weather.  I want to pull out my cute red wool jacket and my great hats…

But this tree… This tree gives me hope.

During the day it is a dull brown-red.  But when the light hits it just right it GLOWS!

Ah… autumn, you tease me with this tree.  But I’ll show you…  I’ve captured your beauty and I’m not apologizing! :P

Love That Shot Link-Up with a Before & After {Memphis, TN~Custom Portraiture}

Posted on October 15, 2010

My favorite shot of the week is this photo that I took of my little neighbor in her Halloween costume.

Today I will talk you through how I edited it.

Here is how it looked when I opened it up on my computer in LightRoom.

(I added the settings to the photo so you could see how I exposed it.)

In LightRoom I bumped up the contrast.  Then I used the Detail brush on her eyes.  I smoothed out her bottom lip.   Then I (are you ready for this?)  MADE MY OWN PRESET!  (This is something new for me!)  I named the preset “Princess” and it looks beautiful on so many different kinds of photos.

Next I opened the photo in Photoshop CS4 to add one of Love Your Shot‘s free photo textures.

(this one, in fact)

I layered this on top of the photo, set the mode to “Mulitply” and then gave it a layer mask so I could erase it off of the princess’s face and hands.

I made sure to save it as a psd file and then I ran one of MCP’s free web-re-size actions, placed my logo on it, and up-loaded it to the web.

Here’s the before and after comparison:

Imaginations ROCK! {Memphis, TN Custom Portraiture}

Posted on October 14, 2010

The kids who live around us have HUGE dress-up stock-piles.  Since it’s close to Halloween, we decided to get some shots of the kids in their costumes for this year.

**I think it’s important to photograph your children wearing what THEY like to wear… how they like to identify themselves.  There will be plenty of time to get photos of them in ties and patent-leather shoes.  Take pictures of them while they PLAY.  Show them you value their imaginations!  (end of soap-box and on to photos)**

Are you exercising your imagination this season?

The Gillespie Clan {Memphis, TN~Family Portraits}

Posted on October 11, 2010

Way back at the beginning of the year I held a facebook contest.  The deal was, whoever got the most friends to “like” d’Lifeful Photography won a free family session and a $50 print credit.

April Emerson referred 46! people.  Her plan all along was to have this family session with her parents, her brother and his family, and her family over the Christmas holiday when they were here from Togo.

Well… plans changed and we were able to do the session this fall.

Rhodes College is a BEAUTIFUL campus here in Memphis and provided the perfect backdrop for our session.

3 adventurous little boys kept me hopping, but we got some great shots.

Enjoy the preview!

(the couple that started all this) ;)

The whole clan…

April got 47 people to “like” my photography.  IM-PRESS-IVE!

See what being a “fan” can get you? :)   Stop by on facebook and join the party!

Can I tell you a secret? {Memphis, TN~Portraiture}

Posted on October 10, 2010

All week I have been bursting with excitement about a secret I had to keep.

My friend, and neighbor, John asked me to help him with a surprise…

Can you guess Jessi’s answer? :P

After I played paparazzi for a bit, we did a quick engagement mini-session.

Isn’t her ring GORGEOUS!?!

Jessi, the beautiful bride-to-be, has been beaming ever since!

We are so excited for these two great people!!

Congratulations!

3 Months Old ALREADY! {Memphis, TN Children’s Portraits}

Posted on October 7, 2010

Remember this newborn?  Well… he’s already 3 months old!!  I can’t believe it.

Last week my sister and my nephew met me and my kids at my parent’s house.  So of course, we took some photos.

(It was so neat to watch these cousins interact!)

But enough of that… let’s see those 3 Month Portraits!!!

I can’t tell if I like this shot better in color or in black and white.  What do you think?

Can you believe how much he’s changed?!

CenterPeace {Fund-Raising Event Photography}

Posted on October 4, 2010

Last Thursday I was able to help with a fund raiser for a very special group.

CenterPeace

This ministry is dedicated to establishing “Safe Places” for people experiencing same-sex attraction.

Here is an excerpt from their web-site:

Like Jesus, CenterPeace invites all men and women who experience same-sex attraction to the table, wherever we may be in our thinking on this issue.

We welcome grace-filled dialogue and respectful disagreement with all who come to the table, acknowledging Jesus as the CenterPeace of our existence.

We neither promote nor condone even the most well-intentioned condemnation of God’s children who experience same-sex attraction, nor will we allow political causes to distract us from extending the Lord’s invitation to His banquet table.

Instead, we present Jesus and His power to set captives free. Without Him at the center of our lives, there is no peace.

The Fund-raiser was an autumn party with a silent auction.  We were also gathered there to honor someone who has been heavily involved with the ministry and it’s arrival on Harding University’s campus:  my mother.

(She’s not going to be happy I posted this beautiful photo of her on-line.) :)

The weather was beautiful, the food amazing (hello, bacon-wrapped scallops!) and the event was lovely.

Lil’ Miss “A” {Newborn Portraits}

Posted on October 4, 2010

This past week was full of photo sessions!  And I will get to all of them, but for now I’m going to highlight the newborn session I had up in Lexington, KY.

Dear family friends welcomed the first grandchild 2 weeks ago.  My mom, my children and I headed up to Lexington for a mini-reunion and a chance to meet Lil’ Miss “A”.

Between catching up and dreaming up plans for the future, I captured some sweet photos of the newest member of the family.

Enjoy the sneak peek!

I am so blessed to have been able to be a small part of welcoming this baby into the family!
