What Should I Wear? {Memphis, TN–Custom Portraiture}
Posted on August 26, 2010
Once you decide that you are going to invest in portraits, the immediate question that plagues the mind of most of us, is:
What am I going to wear!?!
Well, I’ve put together some ideas to get your creativity flowing.
Pick a color that you love and that looks good on the people who are being photographed. (Chances are, if you love the color, it also appears in your home. This means that the Wall Prints you purchase from your session will coordinate beautifully with your decor.)
Notice that NO ONE in this example MATCHES. But, everyone is in a similar level of dressiness.
Go with Neutrals.
See how much texture you can get in by layering. Texture is a beautiful element that gives your images a more loved and cozy feel.
Do you LOVE COLOR? Have a bunch of them! (This is really great if you are having your photos taken when there isn’t a lot of color in your surroundings.)
Make sure, though, that all the colors have the same vibrancy. For example you wouldn’t want to have everyone wearing primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and then have one person wearing a pale pink. If it helps, think of how m&m’s are sold.
Here’s another tip and the one that I think is THE MOST IMPORTANT:
Wear clothes that you and your family are comfortable in. If you never dress up, don’t dress up for your portraits. These are going to capture a moment in the life of your family. You want it to capture who you really are… not some dressed up version of yourself.
If you book a session and are still worried about what to wear, let me know. I’ll help guide you in your decision. We are creating something you will treasure together.

What Goes Around, Comes Around…

When I was little a dear family friend (alright… more of an “uncle”) took some photographs of my little sister (naked) on a sheep-skin rug. Luckily I was already 3 and too old for such a photo session. But those shots have been the source of a running joke between our families for the last 27 and a half years.
Today I had the privilege of photographing “Uncle Ken’s” only grand-daughter. And you know what? Naked baby on a sheep-skin rug time!!!
Little “Miss J” was so serious when she would see my camera. But we played dress-up and got so many great shots that I had a hard time narrowing down which ones to put up for the sneak peek.
It was such an honor to photograph the daughter of one of the few people I’ve known my whole life. I’m going to love watching her grow up!

Road Trip!!! {Custom Portraiture}
Posted on August 5, 2010
Can you guess where we’re going?
DALLAS, TX–October 17-21
For those of you in the Dallas area who have expressed interest in booking a session with d’Lifeful Photography… now is your chance. I have limited slots available.
Also, if there is enough interest, I will look into setting up mini-sessions (half the time-half the cost) in the Dallas Arboretum. They will be all decked out with fall decorations.
Sessions booked in October and November have the added bonus of being close to Christmas. This means that any photos you have taken can be turned into Christmas cards, or (better yet) Christmas gifts! (or Hanukkah… I’m not discriminatory) ;P

Milestones {Memphis, TN–Custom Portrature}
Posted on August 2, 2010
Even before I was a “photographer” I held photo sessions both of my children’s “monthabirthdays”. For the first year of their lives I captured what they looked like at each month. And it is so neat to look back and see how much they changed from month to month. However, when they turned a year old, I realized that I would not be able to keep having photo shoots with them every month for the rest of their time in my home, so I now take photos on (of course) their birthdays and their half birthdays. Six months in the life of a toddler still shows a great deal of change. It’s important to document the milestones and stages of our children’s lives.
Today my baby girl is 2 and a half. So, despite the 100 degree weather and her grumpiness in it, we braved a few minutes outside to capture her on this day.
She is never far from little action figures and toys to play with. Don’t be afraid to allow your children to bring along their play-things to photo sessions. If the toy is a big part of the stage of life they are in, capture it. Sure you may hate stepping over the tiny toys now… but when they are grown and gone, you know part of you will miss hurting your feet on them.
She is unlike any little girl I’ve ever met. And I’m completely smitten with her.
I love you, My Girl!
