New Nephew!–Newborn Custom Photography
Posted on June 30, 2010
I’ve been traveling from Florida back to Tennessee to Arkansas, back to Tennessee, and then I flew out of Little Rock to meet my newest nephew, Kaden Malachi.
Here’s one photo to start your ovaries a churnin’. More will come. I have great plans for this newborn session (since I have hours and days) to capture his cuteness.
Happy Father’s Day!

Shooting Family– {Custom Portraiture}
Posted on June 17, 2010
Tonight, at the special request of my mother-in-law, I went out with her father and step-mother to grab some cute shots of the two of them.
We are so blessed to have them as a part of our lives. They are involved with our children. And how great is it that the kids get to play with their great-grandparents?
So here they are… being all cute and everything…
Love you guys!

I love this family!–{Family Portraits}

This family is near and dear to my heart. They are near and dear to my photography as well.
This family was the family I shot at my first photo session. And yesterday, they were the first family that I did the session INDOORS instead of outdoors. (Oh, yeah… I’m branching out.)
I got to snuggle the new baby, have tea with my “Lil’ Miss” and catch up with my friends. Not bad for a gloomy Sunday afternoon.
Here’s your sneak peek:
I’ve got SO many photos that I love from this session that I’m having trouble narrowing down my photos for editing. (That’s always a good problem to have.)

Growing Up… {Memphis, TN–Children’s Photographer}

I love photographing this kid! Even though circumstances seem to conspire against us at every photo session, he’s so cute, I still get cute shots.
When he got out of his car seat yesterday morning I was floored by how much older he looks at 11 months than he did in March!!! He’s growing up so fast!
Enjoy your sneak peek:
I have another photo session today! I get to meet the newest addition to a dear family!! (newborn snuggles, here I come!)

What are YOUR thoughts?–{Memphis, TN Children’s Photographer}

I have rarely been drawn to black and white photos of children. To me, they haven’t really captured what my experience of children is. The life, and exuberance in a child seems so much more suited to COLOR. Now, don’t get me wrong… for couples… I love me some good candid black and whites a la “Mad About You” intro, but when shooting my own images, they just didn’t strike me as being stronger in black and white.
Now, I will admit to going through a pretty big “sepia” phase back when JR and I first got married. I think part of that was to make sure our photos didn’t distract from each other because of the diverse palates. And there’s validity to that.
However, my mind and heart (b/c that’s what’s most affected by good portraits) have recently been drawn to black and white portraits, especially of my son. Maybe that’s because this just-turned-4-year-old is very thoughtful and “deep”. Maybe it’s the phase he’s in right now.
Sure, the color photo of him captures his light side: the little boy who giggles when his little sister mispronounces things, or tells a knock-knock joke that doesn’t quite go anywhere. But the black and white photo… ah… this captures the Gideon that only JR and I get to see. This is the Gideon who sits on his own thinking about God. The little boy who observes life going on around him and then points out the people who may need a friend. This captures the little boy, who from his booster seat in the car today told me that “Jesus takes away all his badness.” This is the kind of portrait that gives me a glimpse into the man he will one day be.
So, I’m falling in love with black and white portraits now.
But I want to hear from you…
Do you fill your home with color photos or black and white? Or both?

Three Moving Targets– More Shooting Practice {Memphis, TN–Children’s Photographer}

This is one of my neighbors. She is enthusiastic about life and loves to play with my children. She usually does not like having her picture taken, but the other day after playing so sweetly with my daughter in a kiddie pool, she volunteered. What a perfect model she made!
Last week, the kids and I braved the humidity and went scouting for a new shoot location. And we found one right around the corner from where we live!
Naomi wasn’t too in to having her picture taken AGAIN. In fact, the only direction she actually followed was:
“Kiss your brother!”
She loves him. She loves him to death.
Happy Monday, everyone!
